On June 20, 2025, at the invitation of General Nicola Mandolesi, commander of the Italian contingent in Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL mission in Shamaa, Ambassador Maria-Emerica Cortese visited the headquarters where 1,000 Italian Blue Helmets operate.
For many years, the Order of Malta has been cooperating with the military contingent in Shamaa on humanitarian aid projects for the local population, particularly in the health sector.
After a brief analysis of the current delicate situation and the joint actions carried out over the years, the General and the Ambassador underlined the importance of strengthening this cooperation and described possible new projects.
At present, the most pressing needs of the local population are medicines and medical care.
