Her Excellency Ms. Cortese, Ambassador of the Order of Malta in Beirut: “Young Chadi was shot dead while helping to restore internet access to residents who refused to leave a Christian village in the south. With the attacks and the displacement of people, it will be a humanitarian tragedy if the conflict drags on.”
From 22 to 26 February, the Grand Hospitaller of the Order of Malta, H.E. Dr Josef Blotz, visited the Order's humanitarian projects, accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Maria Emerica CCORTESE and Mr. Marwan SEHNAOUI, President of the Lebanese Association of the Knights of Malta.
She defines Lebanon as a ‘wounded country’. First, because of ‘the war, which has been going on since 1975’. And secondly, because of the ‘economic crisis’.
The visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon, which took place from 30 November to 2 December 2025, brought hope and comfort to the Lebanese people, who are facing economic crisis and regional tensions, further strengthening the close ties between the Holy See and Lebanon.
On June 19, 2025, Ambassador Maria-Emerica Cortese, at the invitation of the First Lady of the Republic of Lebanon, Mrs. Nehmat Aoun, took part in the concert followed by dinner organized in the garden of the Presidential Palace.
The Lebanese Association of the Knights of Malta celebrated the feast of its patron, St. John the Baptist, in the presence of Her Excellency Maria Emerica Cortese, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Lebanon.
On June 20, 2025, at the invitation of General Nicola Mandolesi, commander of the Italian contingent in Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL mission in Shamaa, Ambassador Maria-Emerica Cortese visited the headquarters where 1,000 Italian Blue Helmets operate.
On June 17, 2025, the Order of Malta's Ambassador, Maria Emerica Cortese, paid a courtesy call on the Mufti of Beirut, an eminent religious and legal figure representing the Sunni Muslim community.
The Order of Malta Lebanon was honored to welcome H.E. Mr. Frank Mollen, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Lebanon, on a visit to its Community Health Center in Kefraya—in collaboration with the Besançon Sisters—and to its Agro-Humanitarian Center in Kherbit Kanafar, in partnership with the National Litani Authority.
